BUS 110 Week 5

 This week we studied perseverance, a subject I think should be covered in any class since it is a discipline required to finish. I think this is a very powerful concept, the value of which is misunderstood by most. Nowadays we see many people with the mindset that if it is worth my time immediately than I can just quit and try something else. The concept of working a single job for several years is lost on many of today's youth. I should know I talk with the younger generation of workers at my current job all the time and they are blown away at the idea that anyone has worked there for ten years or more. I get that for most my job isn't the one you want to have your whole life, but it is a worthwhile position that pays well, with a flexible schedule, and is ridiculously easy to do. Since I have other ambitions to pursue, this job is perfect of allowing me to do that while still making a living. I've been asked many times why I stay for so long, and the answer really is that easy.

I can also relate my more serious tale of perseverance. When I went to flight school, they told me it would take a year and a half. Due to numerous setbacks, many of which were caused by mismanagement of the school (not the least of which was a former school president being fired and arrested for embezzlement), I didn't complete my education there for five years. In fact I didn't even finish with the school. Thanks to how they mishandled my finances I had to stop going before I finished. Luckily I was close enough to finish on my own and take my final tests with the FAA to get my Commercial Pilots Certificate without the help of the school.

I was told to quit many times. But I always had the realization that my slow progress was never a fault of mine or my abilities. Circumstances just kept putting up roadblocks because when I did progress it was fast and with excellent results (like being top of my class in grades and performance). So I kept at it, and even though I continued to have bad luck making it difficult or impossible to find the job I wanted flying, I did find a job. My current job. I got this job because of my experience with flying, and it has led me to learning about many more opportunities in aviation which has also led me to going back to school.

 In answering the question- What is your attitude toward money?- I have to say that it is pretty complicated. As I learn more with each class leading up to my degree, I think my attitude and views on money change more and more. Years ago I thought that simply having all the money would make all my dreams come true. Now, through education, I've taken a hard look at what it is I really want in life. BUS 110 Week 12

 I believe that virtue and integrity are important to the economy because trust is needed to grow business. Business drives economy. Without trust in a business it won't work and thus won't contribute to the economy the way it needs to. Whether the general population stops frequenting a certain business (i.e. restaurant, or market, etc.) or refuses to invest in a its future through the stock market, this will impact the economy that is most closely affected by that business. I am reminded of shows like "American Greed" or movies like "The Other Guys" and "Fun with Dick and Jane". The former is documentary style while the latter two are more comedic and satirical, but they all paint a vivid picture of corporate greed that destroys innocent lives and subsequently causes harm to the economy. BUS 110 Week 4

 This week I really took a hard look at who I am and who I want to be. I not only made a realization of what I want out of my life, but a strong argument for my return to school at this point in my life. After doing an assignment that allowed me to confront my fears and come up with ways to mitigate this, I really convinced myself to continue with school. I had a hard time making this decision initially. Going to school had not been a great time for me historically. I completed my Associates Degree immediately after high school and for awhile had not intention of continuing my education, mostly because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. After suffering some heartache I made the decision to try becoming a pilot. Going to school for that was a unique experience that started out really great.
